Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and identify their eyewear needs through active listening and professional consultation
- Assist clients with eyewear fittings, frame adjustments, and spectacle lens dispensing to ensure optimal comfort and vision correction
- Operate POS systems and cash registers accurately to process sales transactions efficiently
- Provide expert guidance on optical products, including lenses, frames, and accessories, leveraging knowledge of optics and medical terminology
- Maintain compliance with health regulation policies, HIPAA confidentiality standards, and clinical confidentiality policies when handling patient information
- Support optical laboratory processes such as lens edging, mounting, and quality checks to ensure high standards of product delivery
- Educate customers on proper eyewear care, medical terminology related to vision health, and the importance of regular eye exams in accordance with state healthcare regulations
- Assist in managing inventory levels of eyewear frames, lenses, and supplies while ensuring proper display and organization
- Collaborate with team members to uphold clinic experience standards and deliver outstanding customer service in retail optometry settings
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and optics to provide accurate advice and solutions
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems and Epic or similar electronic medical records platforms for managing patient data securely
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations, medical billing procedures, and laboratory experience related to optical services
- Retail sales expertise combined with excellent customer service skills to foster positive client relationships
- Proficiency in eyewear fittings, spectacle lens dispensing, frame adjustment techniques, and optical laboratory operations
- Ability to perform basic math calculations for prescriptions, retail transactions, and inventory management
- Understanding of health regulation policies including pediatric care considerations and senior care needs within retail or clinical environments
- Competence in using POS systems for sales processing along with clinic experience involving vital signs measurement when applicable
- Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to ophthalmology and optometry practices for effective communication with patients and healthcare providers
