Position Summary
The Host provides warm, friendly, and immediate greetings to guests at the door. Seats, and presents clean menus to guests in a friendly, professional, and quick manner. Hosts should communicate with servers to understand wait times and how they can help to get the next customer sat quickly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Always be happy, friendly and smiling
- Greet all customers with a smile and welcome them to Old Town Pizza
- Be professional and respectful to everyone
- Direct customers based on their needs (take out or dine in)
- Seat dine in customers and inform them of their server’s name along with any other information that may be helpful for the customers dining experience
- Inform the server of the table sat for them along with any pertinent information such as birthdays, celebrations, separate checks, etc.
- Maintain a wait list should one occur. Be sure to communicate with the customers of wait times, for example, why a party of 2 is being sat in front of a large party still waiting. Communication keeps the lobby peaceful
- Inform the manager on duty of any issues that may have arrived such as overlapping reservations, long wait times, or issues with guests
- Always make yourself available to customers for any needs they may have.
- Keep restaurant clean at all times including but not limited to tables, floors, bathrooms, lobby, counters, pictures, etc.
- Answer the phone and take appropriate action for the call
- Retail selling of Merchandise
- Pre-bus and bus tables as soon as possible
- Be available to assist the servers when they need drinks, salads, etc.
- In general, it is critical to stay busy. If you feel you have done everything that can be done, look around and see what else can be done. Cleaning, restocking. Double check with the manager to see if there is anything additional to work on
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- California Food Handler Card (Required prior to first shift)
- Responsible Beverage Services (RBS) Certification (Required prior to orientation/hire date) if over 18 years of age
- Be responsible for learning and using our Spot-On reservation software
- Excellent communication skills (verbally interacts with management, servers, team members and guests)
- Must be able to read, write, and determine wait time based on Company’s procedures
- Must visually scan restaurant for clean, unoccupied tables
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is continuously standing during the entire shift. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; stoop; bend; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to wash hands and answer phones. The employee with occasionally encounter hazards, including slipping and tripping. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
