Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Medical Interpreter specializing in American Sign Language (ASL), Arabic and Spanish to join our dynamic healthcare team in. Duties
- Provide real-time interpretation services for medical consultations, hospital visits, social work sessions, child protective services, and other healthcare interactions involving ASL and Spanish-speaking patients.
- Translate complex medical terminology accurately, ensuring comprehension for both patients and healthcare providers.
- Uphold HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance by safeguarding patient privacy and confidentiality during all interpretation activities.
- Review medical records, clinical documentation, and social work reports to support precise translation and record-keeping.
- Assist with cross-cultural communication to promote understanding of clinical cultural competency standards and foster respectful patient-provider relationships.
- Support hospital staff by translating medical instructions, consent forms, discharge instructions, and other relevant documents.
- Maintain detailed documentation of interpretation sessions, ensuring accuracy and completeness for legal and clinical purposes.
Qualifications
- Proven certification as a Medical Interpreter with specialization in American Sign Language (ASL) and Spanish from an accredited organization.
- Lara Registry, Michigan Certified Medical and Mental Health Certified
- Demonstrated proficiency in translating medical terminology accurately across languages while adhering to clinical ethical guidelines.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and documentation review processes.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex medical information clearly across cultural boundaries.
- Experience working within hospital or healthcare settings is highly preferred, especially involving social work or child protective services.
- Familiarity with medical records management, medical translation services, and cross-cultural communication standards.
- Bilingual fluency in English plus ASL or Spanish is essential; additional language skills are a plus.
