Butler Tech is seeking an experienced HVAC/R professional to join our Adult Education team as a part-time instructor. This position allows you to teach adults preparing for careers in residential and commercial HVAC while sharing the practical knowledge you've developed in the field.
Whether your background includes installation, service, maintenance, or troubleshooting, you'll help students gain the technical skills and confidence employers expect.
No previous teaching experience? That's okay. We'll provide the training and support needed to help you become an effective instructor, including assistance obtaining your Ohio Adult Education teaching permit.
What You'll Do
As an HVAC/R Instructor, you will:
- Deliver engaging classroom lessons and hands-on laboratory instruction
- Demonstrate installation, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair procedures
- Coach students in safe work practices and industry standards
- Prepare learners for EPA certification testing and workplace success
- Evaluate student performance and provide individualized feedback
- Connect technical concepts to real-world service scenarios
- Foster a positive, supportive learning environment for adult students
Qualifications
We're looking for candidates who have:
- Minimum of five (5) years of HVAC/R experience in residential, commercial, or industrial settings
- Current EPA 608 Certification
- R410A Certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine interest in mentoring and developing adult learners
- Basic computer and email proficiency
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following are valued:
- OSHA certification
- ICE certification
- Additional HVAC industry credentials
- Previous coaching, mentoring, or training experience
Technical Knowledge
Successful candidates should have experience with:
- HVAC electrical systems and controls
- Wiring, schematics, and blueprint interpretation
- Refrigerant handling and recovery procedures
- System diagnostics and performance testing
- Residential and commercial equipment
- HVAC codes, regulations, and safety practices
