The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher for grades 5-8, with a focus on Family & Consumer Sciences (FACS), provides engaging, standards-based instruction that introduces students to life skills, career pathways, and workforce readiness. Instruction emphasizes hands-on learning in areas such as nutrition, personal finance, human development, and consumer skills, aligned with New York State Education Department CTE and FACS frameworks.
- Plan and deliver instruction aligned with NYSED CTE and FACS learning standards
- Teach courses and units in areas such as:
- Nutrition and food preparation
- Personal finance and consumer decision-making
- Human development and interpersonal relationships
- Career exploration and life skills
- Incorporate hands-on, project-based learning experiences
- Maintain and manage classroom/lab spaces, including kitchens and equipment if applicable
- Promote safety, sanitation, and proper use of tools and materials
- Integrate technology and real-world applications into instruction
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with IEPs and English Language Learners
- Assess student learning through projects, performance tasks, and portfolios
- Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary and career-readiness initiatives
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development
- Bachelor's degree in Family & Consumer Sciences, CTE, Education, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Family & Consumer Sciences (or appropriate CTE certification)
- Knowledge of FACS content areas, life skills instruction, and adolescent development
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Experience teaching middle school students (grades 5-8)
- Experience managing a FACS lab/kitchen classroom
- Familiarity with project-based learning and experiential instruction
- Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices
- Classroom/lab environment, potentially including a kitchen or life skills lab
- Regular use of instructional technology and hands-on materials
- Adherence to safety and sanitation standards
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Support student growth in life skills, independence, and career awareness
- Maintain accurate records and meet all district deadlines
- Adhere to district policies and professional standards
