Substitute teachers—also known as guest teachers or relief teachers—play a vital role in keeping classrooms running smoothly and ensuring students continue learning when their regular teacher is absent.

Minimum Requirements
Substitute Teachers:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 18 years or older/21 & 23 years of age for some districts
Teacher Assistants:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 18 years or older/21 & 23 years of age for some districts
- Ability to work well with students and staff
Pay Rates:
Jackson Public Schools:
Substitute Teacher: $85/Day
Republic Schools:
Substitute Teacher: $ 110/Day
Substitute Assistant: $ 11/Hour
Responsibilities
- Follow district lesson plans and classroom procedures
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning
- Enforce school rules and policies
- For long-term assignments, may develop lesson plans and grade assignments
- Support students academically and behaviorally (Teacher Assistants)
