Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Special Education, Behavior Analyst, Social Work, or School Counselor
- Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) preferred.
- NYS Certification in Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling required.
- 3-5 years' experience in the areas of behavior management and non-violent crisis and/or special education preferred.

Job Description:
- A Behavior Specialist provides support to staff through training, coaching, and modeling strategies for supporting students with behavioral and emotional challenges. They will provide support for classroom and school-wide behavior management systems through our MTSS system.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Behavior Assessment & Analysis:
- Assist with conducting functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to determine the root causes of challenging behaviors.
- Assist with collecting and analyzing behavioral data to track student progress.
- Intervention & Support:
- Assist with the development and implementation of Behavior Plans tailored to students' needs.
- Provide behavioral supports, interventions, and evidence-based strategies to promote positive social-emotional development.
- Collaboration & Training:
- Work closely with teachers, counselors, and support staff to promote positive student behavior.
- Provide professional development that targets research, strategies, and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in implementing positive behavior support in their classrooms.
- Train staff in behavior intervention and de-escalation techniques.
- Collaborate with parents and guardians to reinforce positive behaviors at home.
- Develop parent-friendly resources to support parents in engaging with the process.
- Crisis Intervention & Conflict Resolution:
- Assist in de-escalating student crises and provide appropriate interventions.
- Support staff in helping students develop coping skills and conflict resolution strategies.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Assist staff in setting up a system to maintain detailed records of behavioral interventions and student progress.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding student behavior interventions and special education services.
- Be an active member of the following types of meetings as necessary: CSE, MTSS, FBA, and team/parent meetings
- Assist in creating and monitoring plans, modifying behavioral systems, reviewing behavioral progress, and conducting meetings to brainstorm ways of addressing complex situations and behaviors.
- Provide staff with the necessary tools, including interventions, supports, assessments, and strategies, to develop skills and proficiencies related to social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Terms of Employment: 10-month position
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the Annual Professional Employee Performance Review.
