Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Qualified Medication Aide to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will assist with medication administration, monitor patient health, and provide exceptional care to residents in assisted living, nursing homes, or home care settings. Your expertise will help ensure safe, effective medication management and support overall well-being for individuals with diverse needs, including those with dementia, Alzheimer's, or disabilities. Responsibilities
- Safely administer medications to residents according to physician orders and established protocols, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards.
- Monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration to assess residents' health status regularly.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including mobility, hygiene, feeding (including tube feeding), and personal care.
- Maintain accurate medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems like Epic or Cerner for documentation of medication administration and patient progress.
- Observe and report any changes in residents’ physical or mental condition, including signs of dementia, memory loss, or hospice needs.
- Support residents with specialized care requirements such as catheter care, wound care, or managing medical equipment.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each resident’s needs.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols related to medication storage, handling, and disposal.
- Assist in training new team members on medication procedures and documentation practices.
- Uphold confidentiality and privacy standards in accordance with HIPAA guidelines during all patient interactions.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) or equivalent credential recognized by state regulations.
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or home & community care environments is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and medication administration procedures.
- Experience working with diverse populations including seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia patients, or those requiring hospice care.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation.
- Strong caregiving skills with a compassionate approach toward residents’ physical and emotional needs.
- Ability to accurately measure vital signs and perform basic nursing tasks such as tube feeding or catheter care when required.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient records at all times.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with healthcare teams and family members.
