Lead Perception Engineer
Location:New York City, NY (Onsite)
Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation:$300,000 – $650,000 annually
Overview
We are looking for a Lead Perception Engineer to own and deliver the perception layer of an advanced autonomy stack. This is a high-impact, hands-on role focused on building real-time computer vision and sensor fusion systems that operate reliably on constrained edge hardware in dynamic environments. This is not a research-only position—you will take perception systems from concept through prototype and field deployment, working across software, hardware, and real-world testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy real-time object detection, classification, and tracking systems.
- Optimize machine learning models for edge deployment (Jetson, ARM, hardware accelerators).
- Build multi-sensor perception pipelines (camera, LiDAR, etc.).
- Improve system robustness under real-world conditions, including lighting changes, motion blur, and occlusion.
- Integrate perception outputs into downstream autonomy systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field required.
- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field is preferred.
- Strong experience with modern computer vision models (YOLO, Vision Transformers, tracking systems, etc.).
- Experience training, fine-tuning, and deploying machine learning models.
- Experience with edge inference optimization using TensorRT, ONNX, or similar frameworks.
- Strong programming skills in Python and C++ (Rust is a plus).
- Experience working with real-time video pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hardware accelerators (e.g., Hailo or similar).
- Experience with multi-object tracking frameworks (e.g., ByteTrack, DeepSORT).
- Experience with dataset management and annotation pipelines (e.g., Roboflow or similar).
- Experience deploying machine learning models on embedded systems.
Additional Requirements
- Must meet ITAR requirements (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder).
- This is an onsite position based in New York City, NY.
Pay: $300,000.00 - $650,000.00 per year
