Penta Gear Metrology is looking for a dependable and organized Shop Coordinator / Quality Lab Technician to support our shop, quality lab, and service operations.
Penta Gear Metrology specializes in gear inspection machines, calibration, service, repair, and customer support throughout the United States. This position is a good fit for someone with a quality, manufacturing, inspection, or shop-support background who is willing to learn and take ownership of daily responsibilities.
Position Summary
The Shop Coordinator / Quality Lab Technician will assist with shop coordination, quality lab support, customer parts handling, inspection documentation, and general operational support. This role requires someone who is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working around shop equipment, and able to communicate findings clearly to both internal team members and customers.
Prior quality lab or QA experience is preferred. Gear inspection or metrology experience is a plus but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate.
Schedule
Monday through Friday
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Pay
$22.00 to $26.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Higher starting pay may be considered for candidates with strong quality lab, inspection, metrology, manufacturing, blueprint reading, or CMM experience.
Responsibilities
- Support daily shop and quality lab operations
- Assist with receiving, staging, organizing, and tracking customer parts and equipment
- Support inspection work, documentation, and reporting
- Document inspection findings clearly and accurately
- Help explain findings, job status, or documentation to customers when needed
- Maintain organized job records, notes, photos, and related paperwork
- Assist with shipping, receiving, packaging, and material movement
- Operate a forklift as needed
- Help keep the shop, lab, and storage areas clean, organized, and safe
- Coordinate with technicians, lab personnel, office staff, and management
- Communicate job status, delays, concerns, or issues as they come up
- Follow written procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements
- Support other shop, lab, and operational tasks as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior quality assurance, quality lab, inspection, manufacturing, machining, or shop-support experience
- Basic PC skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Prior forklift experience preferred
- Comfortable working around shop equipment and safely moving parts or equipment as needed
- Ability to read basic mechanical drawings or willingness to learn
- Experience using basic measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, or gauges preferred
- Strong organization and documentation skills
- Ability to clearly document findings and communicate them to customers
- Comfortable working around machines, tools, parts, and shop equipment
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and ask questions when needed
- Self-starter who can stay productive without constant supervision
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Valid driver’s license preferred

This person does not need to know gear inspection on day one, but they should be willing to learn, follow procedures, and grow into the role.
Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
