RNC / Retail Plumbing Manager
Job Title: Residential New Construction / Retail Plumbing Manager
The Residential New Construction / Retail Plumbing Manager is responsible for overseeing and growing both the residential new construction plumbing division and the retail (service & replacement) plumbing department. This role combines leadership, project management, job costing, quality control, and sales performance to ensure profitable operations, code compliance, and high-quality workmanship.
The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable, hands-on leader who understands residential plumbing systems, builder requirements, and retail service operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Leadership
- Manage daily operations for residential new construction and retail plumbing departments
- Lead, coach, and hold plumbers, apprentices, supervisors, and subcontractors accountable
- Ensure all work meets company standards, builder expectations, and code requirements
- Enforce safety policies, quality control procedures, and best practices
New Construction Management
- Full understanding of NC plumbing code and inspection requirements
- Coordinate with builders, superintendents, inspectors, vendors, and subcontractors
- Understand and meet builder-specific requirements and timelines
- Oversee scheduling of rough-ins, top-outs, trims, and final inspections
- Review blueprints and scopes of work
- Calculate materials accurately and manage material ordering
- Manage change orders, job costing, and production efficiency
Retail / Service Plumbing Management
- Oversee residential service and replacement plumbing operations
- Ensure proper diagnostics, options presentation, and closing techniques
- Monitor KPIs including average ticket, close rates, callbacks, and customer satisfaction
- Maintain quality control on service work and installations
Financial & Performance Management
- Strong understanding of job costing and profitability
- Review labor efficiency, material usage, and job margins
- Assist with pricing, estimates, and departmental budgeting
- Identify opportunities to improve margins and operational efficiency
Quality Control & Compliance
- Ensure subcontractors perform all work to company standards, specifications, and quality expectations
- Inspect subcontractor and in-house work for accuracy, cleanliness, and code compliance
- Address deficiencies promptly and enforce corrective actions when needed
Customer & Builder Relations
- Maintain professional communication with homeowners and builders
- Resolve escalated customer or builder issues promptly
- Protect company reputation through quality workmanship and follow-through
Qualifications
- 5+ years of residential plumbing experience (new construction and/or retail service)
- Strong knowledge of NC plumbing code
- Proven experience with job costing, material calculation, quality control, and subcontractor oversight
- Solid understanding of residential builder requirements and construction timelines
- Previous leadership or management experience preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
