Job Title: Cavern Naturalist
Do you enjoy working with people, learning interesting things, and sharing stories in a way that keeps guests engaged? We’re looking for a Cavern Naturalist to join our team and help lead walking tours through the cavern.
This position is a mix of tour guiding, guest service, and helping with day-to-day Visitor Center operations. A good fit for this role is someone who is friendly, dependable, comfortable speaking in front of groups, and willing to learn about the cavern’s history, geology, and unique features.
What You’ll Do
- Lead guided walking tours through the cavern while sharing information about its history, geology, and natural features.
- Learn and memorize important tour information so you can provide guests with an accurate, interesting, and enjoyable experience.
- Talk with guests, answer questions, and help create a welcoming and memorable visit.
- Help with Visitor Center operations, including running the point-of-sale system, handling payments, selling merchandise, and learning opening and closing duties.
- Assist with general upkeep around the Visitor Center, including housekeeping, light landscaping, restocking merchandise and gem mining bags, and helping maintain the gem panning sluice.
- Help with food and drink inventory, small maintenance projects, and other duties as needed.
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous tour guide, teaching, customer service, outdoor recreation, or interpretive experience is helpful, but not required.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly attitude.
- Comfort speaking to groups and working with visitors of all ages.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, carry items, and work in an active environment.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
About the Role
We work in a unique setting and want our guests to leave with a better appreciation of the cavern and the natural world around it. We provide training, but we’re looking for someone who is curious, reliable, and willing to jump in where needed.
If you enjoy people, nature, local history, and the idea of working somewhere a little different from the usual job, we’d love to hear from you.
