Position Summary
The Sales/Estimator is responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying new business opportunities, developing client relationships, and preparing accurate cost estimates for commercial painting projects. This role bridges sales and operations, ensuring projects are competitively priced, profitable, and aligned with client expectations.
Key ResponsibilitiesSales & Business Development
- Identify and pursue new commercial painting opportunities (general contractors, property managers, developers, etc.)
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry partners
- Attend networking events, pre-bid meetings, and job walks
- Track and manage leads, bids, and pipeline activity
- Prepare and deliver proposals, presentations, and contract negotiations
- Meet or exceed monthly and annual sales targets
Estimating & Pre-Construction
- Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Conduct on-site assessments and measurements
- Perform quantity takeoffs and cost analysis (labor, materials, equipment)
- Prepare detailed, accurate, and competitive estimates
- Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors for pricing
- Ensure estimates meet company profit and margin goals
- Submit bids on time and follow up with clients
Project Handoff & Coordination
- Communicate project scope, timelines, and costs to project management team
- Assist with project startup meetings when needed
- Maintain job costing data to improve future estimates
- Support change orders and additional work pricing
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- 2+ years of experience in commercial painting, construction estimating, or sales
- Experience reading blueprints and construction documents preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong sales and negotiation skills
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to perform accurate takeoffs and cost calculations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in commercial or industrial painting
- Knowledge of coatings, surface preparation, and application methods
- Familiarity with bid platforms (e.g., PlanHub, BuildingConnected, Bluebeam)
- Existing relationships within construction or property management industries
