Astro West, Manhattan’s premier natural history gallery, is seeking a dependable, motivated Sales Cashier & Client Support Associate to join our team full‑time. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys connecting with customers, thrives in a luxury NYC retail setting, and is eager to grow into a high‑performing Sales Executive with access to our weekly commission structure for increased earning potential.
As the first point of contact for many visitors, you will operate the register, handle transactions through our Square POS system, and ensure every client receives a smooth, welcoming experience.
As you build product knowledge and develop sales and client‑relationship skills, you’ll have the opportunity to transition into a full‑time, commission‑earning sales role.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the sales register and process all transactions using the Square POS system
- Greet customers, answer phones, and deliver exceptional in‑store support
- Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing product displays
- Assist with packaging, bagging, and securing high‑value items
- Support the sales team with restocking, merchandising, and product presentation
- Learn and retain product knowledge across our inventory
- Participate in ongoing training to strengthen your skills and potential
- Contribute to a positive, professional, and collaborative team environment
Qualifications
- Previous retail or customer service experience preferred
- Comfort using POS systems (Square experience is a plus)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast‑paced environment
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
- Interest in growing into a sales‑driven, commission‑based role
- Curiosity about natural history, minerals, fossils, or luxury retail is a bonus, not a requirement

This role is intentionally structured for advancement. As you demonstrate strong customer engagement, product knowledge, and sales aptitude, you’ll have the opportunity to move into a Sales Executive position and participate in Astro West’s competitive weekly commission program.
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
