SUMMARY:
The Project Engineer works closely with and supports the Director of Construction, Superintendent, Project Manager(s), contractors, sub-contractors and other team members. The Project Engineer focuses on understanding contracts / plans / specifications / addenda / owners’ contract and subcontracts, RFIs, ASIs, change orders, meeting minutes, job closeout documentation, managing multiple tasks, producing quality work, consistently meeting deadlines and being results-driven. This position requires frequent travel to and from the office, job sites / projects, meetings, supplier/sub-contractor locations, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

Manage project engineering and related functions and activities

Understand and review contract documents, plans, specifications, addenda, owner s contract and subcontracts and monitor all for compliance

Ensure project engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule

Assist PM/Superintendent in preparing and maintaining project schedule over the course of the project.

Provide technical support for construction effort including participation in construction planning and design, interpretation of design, application of construction methods, resolution and documentation of design conflicts, constructability reviews, etc.

Assist in the award of subcontracts, create and negotiate Subcontract Scopes of Work.

Distribute contract documents to subcontractors, including drawings, specifications, and general conditions

Represent company, project and/PR department during A/E, client and PM meetings
-
Interface all on-site departments as required to resolve problems, ensure quality of construction, etc., in support of overall project schedule

Create purchase order
-
Assist Superintendent and Project Manager as required
-
Gather submittals from subcontractors/suppliers and create submittal log
-
Review and forward processed submittals to subcontractors/suppliers/architects and the field;

Track status of submittals with A/E
-
Track status of procurement/material deliveries with suppliers/subs and superintendent
-
Obtain additional information for submittals as needed/revise and resubmit as required

During Construction Phase, proactively manage project to achieve quality, schedule, budget and safety

Obtain quotes from subcontractors/suppliers for additional work as requested
-
Compile quotes and prepare proposals to owners for price adjustments
-
Track proposal requests through disposition
-
Attend all construction meetings and prepare and distribute meeting minutes.

Attend site inspections and create and distribute deficiency and punch list and track through completion
-
Complete owner change orders/budget adjustments based on approved proposal requests

Prepare subcontract change orders or revised purchase orders for approved changes
-
Support Project Manager with monthly job cost reporting and updating budget cost projections

Prepare Request for Information (RFI) as needed

Forward RFIs to A/E for review and response

Create log of RFIs and distribute RFIs to field and subs/suppliers
-
Monitor and track status of RFIs
-
Obtain ASIs and distribute to appropriate project team members
-
Create log of ASIs and ensure that ASIs are incorporated into drawings and/or project files as needed.

Document quality and progress of each Subcontractor and Suppliers. Update Subcontractors and Suppliers of any changes to the plans, specifications and/or schedule.

Assist with preparation of quantity takeoffs and estimates and help define scopes of work and price change orders.

Responsible for timely completion of all required project close-out documents per contract.

Support Project Manager in preparation of monthly pay applications for owner and subcontractor billings

Support Estimator with bid and proposal preparation and obtaining subcontractor pricing
-
Current and valid drivers’ license in the state of permanent residence
-
Must have training in EPA/SWPPP best management practices or must attend next available class.

Must maintain First Aid and CPR training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor level degree with an emphasis in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred
-
One year of actual construction experience is preferred.

Continuing education in the fields of Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering is encouraged.
