About the role
We're looking for a mechanical engineer to own the physical design of our products and help lead production — both improving what we already make and bringing new products to life. This is a rare chance to take real ownership early: you'll carry designs from concept, to CAD, to a part you can hold in your hands.
This role is what you make of it. We're looking for a self-starter who can take the reins and run without hand-holding — someone who will make the position their own and help shape the future of design and product direction at Innovative Timing Systems as we grow. We'll give you ownership and trust; we expect you to run with it.
We're hiring for the long term. We want someone who can grow with us and step into a permanent, senior role as the company scales.
What you'll do
- Own the mechanical design of our products, from concept through detailed CAD models and drawings
- Prototype quickly with 3D printing, then test, iterate, and refine
- Fabricate and produce parts — CNC and other shop processes — for both prototypes and production runs
- Lead and improve production of our existing products, and stand up production for new ones
- Work closely with the whole team across design, sourcing, assembly, and testing to ship products that work
What you'll bring
Above all, we care about attitude and initiative. If you're a self-starter with a great attitude — a hard worker who can take a problem and run with it, a genuine team player, and flexible enough to jump on whatever the day needs — you'll thrive here.
- A self-starter who takes initiative and works independently — we'll hand you ownership, not step-by-step direction
- Real, hands-on experience actually making things — we want proof you've designed and built, not just studied the theory (a portfolio or project examples strongly preferred)
- Strong CAD skills — Fusion 360 preferred (or solid experience in a comparable tool you can transfer quickly)
- Hands-on 3D printing experience
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- A great attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and adapt
Nice to have
Design & analysis
- GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerancing) and detailed, well-organized engineering drawings
- FEA / simulation for stress, thermal, or motion (e.g., Fusion 360 or SolidWorks Simulation)
- Material knowledge across plastics (PLA, ABS, PETG, nylon) and metals (aluminum, steel), and processes like injection molding or sheet metal
- Rendering and visualization for product shots and pitches (e.g., KeyShot)
3D printing
- Bambu Lab printers and slicers like Orca Slicer, Bambu Studio, Cura, or PrusaSlicer
- Both FDM and SLA (resin) printing
CNC & fabrication
- CAM and CNC machining (Fusion 360 CAM, Mastercam, or HSMWorks)
- CNC routing with VCarve, and an understanding of CNC mills and routers
- Laser cutting/engraving (e.g., LightBurn), and comfort with shop measurement tools like calipers and micrometers
Also a plus
- Personal builds — maker projects, robotics, competitions, side projects (we love to see them)
- Basic electronics or mechatronics (e.g., Arduino) and familiarity with BOMs and production workflows
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
