Position Summary: Part-time; (Mon, Wed, Friday; 8-4:30pm, 1/2 day on Thurs):
Hours: 29 hours/week
The Receptionist position handles patient registration, appointment scheduling (in-house, surgical and radiology), insurance referrals, precertification of radiology orders, patient account collection over the phone and at check out, documentation of incoming/outgoing calls (routing appropriately), claim creation, desktop management, processing incoming mail, and all other administrative functions for Fore River Urology patients. The individual is responsible for courteously and immediately greeting and directing patients to assure and maintain a smooth patient flow.
Key Outcomes:
- Greet, register and/or check patients’ current demographics and insurance information for patients’ appointment.
- Schedule appointments by phone, mail or in person, and re-schedule appointments at the patients request and convenience.
- Working with patients, surgeon’s and the local Hospital and Medical Facility’s to schedule radiology and surgical procedures (including precertification).
- Provide back up to referral functions as needed.
- Screen and/or provide information and direct calls to appropriate department/staff to expeditiously assist patients.
- Communicate, both written and oral, information to clinical and non-clinical staff as requested by patients, outside callers, inside callers (i.e., test results, prescription refills, medical inquiries).
- Collect and record correct payment from patients; provides proper receipt; reconcile cash on a daily basis.
- Perform other duties as requested/required.
- Cross trained in all functions of the front desk area.
- Learn all aspects of working in a Total Quality Environment (ie, team building skills, communication skills, how to give and receive feedback, facilitation, etc).
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, post-secondary education preferred.
- Experience in a physician’s office setting or outpatient clinic preferred.
- Medical background with a working knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

- Excellent computer skills
- Experience with "front line" customer service.
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, co-workers, other departments and medical staff in a pleasant and professional manner

- Must be warm and empathetic toward patients and respect the confidentiality of the patients’ medical and financial accounts.
