Position Overview
Title: Housekeeper
Reports To: Director of Housekeeping
Purpose:
Implement housekeeping procedures in an efficient, cost-effective manner to ensure a clean, safe environment that meets residents’ needs and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Delegation of Authority
The Housekeeper is authorized to:

Implement housekeeping procedures in compliance with regulations.

Participate in monitoring housekeeping systems.
-
Notify supervisors when supplies are needed.
-
Report equipment or facility areas needing repair.
Duties & Responsibilities
Cleaning & Sanitation
-
Perform routine and periodic cleaning of assigned areas.
-
Dust mop and wet mop resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, nursing stations, and medication rooms (under nursing supervision).

Dust horizontal surfaces daily.
-
Refill soap, alcohol, and paper towel dispensers.
-
Transport trash and contaminated waste to designated collection areas.
-
Clean and maintain housekeeping equipment and carts daily.
Safety & Infection Control
-
Follow sanitary, safety, and infection control practices.
-
Use authorized chemicals and cleaning agents as directed.
-
Follow MSDS/SDS guidelines.
-
Operate housekeeping equipment safely.
-
Observe proper waste disposal procedures.
-
Report faulty equipment or unsafe conditions promptly.
Communication & Professional Conduct
-
Maintain courteous, respectful communication with residents, visitors, and staff.
-
Maintain confidentiality of resident information at all times.

Report unusual situations to supervisor or charge nurse.
-
Promote positive public relations and represent the facility professionally.
Administrative & Facility Support
-
Use housekeeping supplies efficiently.
-
Participate in Quality Assurance and Board Meeting duties as assigned, including monthly reports.

Attend orientation, in-services, and mandatory training sessions.
-
Serve on facility committees as appointed.
-
Develop positive working relationships with other departments.
-
Accept additional duties as delegated by the Director of Plant Operations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
-
Ability to read and write.
-
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
-
Previous housekeeping experience in an institutional or healthcare setting preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
-
Knowledge of cleaning equipment, proper solutions, and materials.
-
Ability to follow cleaning schedules and facility procedures.
-
Effective communication with elderly or disabled residents, staff, and visitors.
Physical Requirements
-
Fast-paced work with repetitive motion.
-
Ability to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 10 lbs.
-
Prolonged standing, sitting, bending.
-
Ability to balance and demonstrate proper body mechanics.

Occasional crawling, kneeling, climbing, twisting.
