Job Description: The Peer Specialist's role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Peer Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and be a motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.
Role and Responsibilities

Will share personal, practical experience and firsthand knowledge and insight for the benefit of the client and the treatment team.

Serve as a mentor to clients to promote hope and empowerment in treatment.

Participate in team meetings and treatment plan review meetings.

Provide support, encouragement, and assistance with managing daily life activities.
- Act as an advocate for client treatment, participation in community programming, understanding rights, mediation, and conflict resolution, etc.
- Attend weekly court sessions, do assessments of potential clients, and drug screening from the court.

Hold weekly groups at the jail.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of paid volunteer or work experience with adults with substance use disorders

Been in Recovery for 1 year.
Physical Requirements
-
Capable of visiting consumers in their homes or the community, which may not be handicapped accessible.

Must have knowledge and ability to manage their own mental illness and must be well established in their individual recovery.
Special Requirements
- Must successfully pass background checks and drug screen.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of KY and dependable transportation
