Position Overview
As a Retail Team Member, you will be the face of Northwest Pets—creating memorable, positive experiences for our customers and their pets every day. This position combines a love for animals with outstanding customer service skills and a strong work ethic. You will assist customers in finding the right products for their pets, keep our stores looking their best, and ensure every customer feels valued and supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding customer service by engaging in a friendly manner with every customer, actively listening to their needs, and offering knowledgeable recommendations.
- Develop a thorough understanding of pet care products and foods, including how they meet specific health and lifestyle needs of dogs and cats.
- Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and our do-it-yourself dog wash facilities in a friendly, helpful manner.
- Maintain store cleanliness and organization, including restocking shelves, sanitizing dog wash areas, and ensuring aisles and shelves are faced properly.
- Operate the cash register with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring the transaction experience is pleasant and with ease.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment, supporting coworkers and helping wherever needed.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding and hands-on position that requires stamina, energy, and attention to detail:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. regularly (i.e., pet food, litter, supplies).
- Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and moving continuously for 5 or more hours at a time.
- Capable of performing cleaning and stocking tasks that involve repetitive motion and physical activity.
- Willing to work in a fast-paced environment where multitasking is vital.
Qualifications and Attributes
- A genuine love for animals and a desire to help pet owners make the best choices for their furry companions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—you enjoy talking to people as much as working with pets.
- Well organized and comfortable maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Quick learner with the ability to retain and apply product knowledge across hundreds of items.
- Team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and takes direction well.
- Energetic, self-motivated, and eager to stay busy throughout the day.
- Previous experience in retail or pet care is a plus but is not required—we provide full training!
Schedule
- Availability to work a Saturday or Sunday shift is required on a continuing basis - remainder of schedule TBD.
- Schedule may consist of working at more than one location.
- Earliest start time: 10:00 a.m.
- Latest end time: 7:30 p.m.
- Full-time and part-time hours available
- Part time: 15-37 hours per week
- Full time: 38-40 hours per week
- Note: We do not hire seasonal employees. I.e., summer work, holiday work, etc.
