Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electronic Assembly Technician to join our dynamic manufacturing team. The Electronic Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting of precision electronic and electromechanical geophysical instruments. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to interpret engineering documentation, and a commitment to producing high-reliability equipment designed for demanding field environments.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Technical school, vocational training, or an Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.
- Experience assembling electrical or electronic equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read Electrical schematics, Wiring/Circuit board schematics and Wiring diagrams, Mechanical assembly drawings and diagrams, and BOMs.
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, crimpers, and soldering equipment.
- Ability to use digital multimeters and basic electronic test equipment.
- Basic computer skills for production documentation.
Responsibilities
- Assemble electronic and electromechanical geophysical tools according to engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, assembly procedures, and bills of material.
- Troubleshoot and perform quality inspections (of both electrical wiring and PC board assemblies at a component level.
- Fabricate and terminate cables, connectors, and wiring harnesses.
- Install sensors, pressure transducers, accelerometers, magnetometers, gamma detectors, power supplies, and communication modules.
- Conduct continuity, insulation resistance, and functional electrical testing procedures.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic assembly issues using multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Perform calibration and verification testing of completed geophysical instruments.
- Record production data, inspection results, serial numbers, and test documentation.
- Comply with quality management procedures.
- Work closely with engineering to resolve design or production issues.
- Assist in prototype builds and engineering change implementation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building scientific instruments, industrial controls, or oilfield equipment.
- Familiarity with geophysical instrumentation or downhole tools.
- Experience with calibration procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for assembling small precision components.
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to distinguish wire colors.
- Good vision (corrected if necessary) for precision assembly work.
