Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential care and treatment for animals. Your expertise in pet care and veterinary practice will help our patients stay healthy, and we'll provide the highest-quality care in a supportive environment.
Duties
As a Veterinary Technician, your responsibilities will include:
- Engage and communicate with staff and clients in a professional, friendly manner
- Provide the Ability to perform and complete exams on all animal intakes, including physical exams, vaccinations, heartworm tests, FIV/FeLV tests, Administer Medications, restrain an animal as needed to perform duties like drawing blood, running basic lab tests, and fecals, Identifying Ringworm, kennel cough, etc.
- Develop rapport with local veterinarians and schedule appointments, surgeries, etc.
- Provide vet appointment notifications and vaccination timeline to all animal care staff
- Maintain patient medical history information
- Order all medical supplies with Shelter Director approval
- Deliver and pick up all patients from local veterinarian offices
- Monitor patients after surgeries, dentals, and other treatments and report observations to the Shelter Director and the partner veterinarian
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or management
Skills
To excel in this position, candidates should possess the following skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds required
- LVT (Licensed Veterinary Technician) degree highly preferred but not required
- At least one year of prior veterinary experience required, two years preferred
- Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
- Strong work ethic, willing to do all necessary tasks to help the team
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members
- A compassionate attitude towards animals and their owners
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
- Team player with the ability to work as a group, but also independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
