Accounting Manager
Join our team located in the Financial District of San Francisco. The Accounting Manager oversees a team of four accountants and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The Accounting Manager oversees a department that is responsible for all accounting activities for four apartment properties (over 1,200 apartments) and all new real estate development projects, with room for growth in the position/company. This includes oversight and responsibility for the preparation of financial statements, accounting activities, coordination with outside CPAs on tax returns and year-end audits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, accounting software, and payroll for Emerald Fund and all of its projects and affiliates, as appropriate. The position is also responsible for the timely filing of certain regulatory and administrative reports, and will provide ad hoc analytical support to the Chief Financial Officer.
The company currently requires employees to work in our San Francisco office at least three days per week, with two days of remote work per week.
Basic responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Accounting Functions:
o Review/Approve work of Accountants including Journal Entries, Financial Statements/Packages, Bank Reconciliations, etc.
o Responsibility for Cash Management including reviewing wire/fund transfers and determining Cash Calls/Distributions to Investors
o Review and ensure regulatory forms are filed, including 1099s, Gross Receipts Tax, Business Tax, Annual Form 571L – Unsecured Property Tax, etc
· Year-End Functions:
o Coordinate year-end engagements with outside CPA firms for annual audits/reviews/tax
o Ensure K-1s to investors are received and delivered timely
· Financial Functions:
o Budget: upload annual budgets prepared by other personnel, assist budget preparation with questions on budgeting expenses, review finalized budget for reasonableness
o Cash Management – Prepare and review cash positions to determine cash needs across multiple property/project entities
· Development of Work Flow/Team:
o Review and formulate workflow for efficiency. Create and identify workflow for new projects
o Train and promote staff for department growth
o Prepare annual performance evaluations
· Accounting System Maintenance
o Maintain and ensure accounting system integrity and checks and balances, and close out accounting periods in the system
· Property Management Accounting
o Act as liason with Property Management team during their monthly property close
o Work with Property Manager on improving financial results, identify problem areas, perform random audits of tenant ledgers, implement ideas
· Payroll
o Review payroll processed by other personnel twice per month. Prepare payroll funding allocations to property/project entities.
Ideal candidates will have:
· Degree in accounting or related field
· At least 5 years of experience working in accounting or bookkeeping
· Experience with both accrual and cash basis of accounting
· Experience in preparation of financial statements, journal entries, and cash management.
· Computer proficient in Windows, MS Office, Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with accounting software
· Excellent multi-talking skills with self-motivation and self-direction in a fast-paced work environment.
· Extreme attention to detail and organizational skills.
· Quick learner and strategic thinking capabilities
· Ability to manage a diverse team of individuals.
· Ability to work collaboratively or independently and be a self-starter
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Nice to have:
· Familiar with year-end HUD audit for multifamily properties
· Familiar with ADP Payroll
· Knowledge of Sage 300 and RealPage Onesite a plus
Compensation:
· The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $170,000, taking into account numerous factors including but not limited to experience, training, and skill sets.
