Job Summary
We are seeking a PRN (pro re nata, or as-needed basis) Respiratory Therapist to join our dedicated healthcare team. In this role, you will provide essential respiratory care services across various hospital departments, including critical care units, emergency medicine, pediatrics, and neonatal units. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a comprehensive understanding of respiratory therapy procedures, and the ability to adapt to diverse patient needs. Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate a strong foundation in respiratory therapy with relevant clinical experience. The ideal applicant will meet the following qualifications:
- 1+ year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist Hospital
- Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred. MUST BE American Heart Association.
- TB test -Negative IGRA (Quantiferon Gold or T-Spot
- blood test) with negative TB symptom screening - Negative 1-step or 2-step Mantoux skin test (PPD) -History of positive tuberculin test and proof of
- negative chest x-ray with annual negative symptom questionnaire.
- Prior experience in hospital environments such as ICU, emergency departments, or trauma centers.
- Proficiency in ventilator management and airway procedures across diverse patient populations.
- Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology related to respiratory function.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems for documentation purposes.
- Ability to perform under pressure during critical situations like cardiac arrest emergencies.
- Familiarity with medical equipment operation including ventilators, monitors, and oxygen delivery systems.
- Strong patient assessment skills coupled with excellent communication abilities.
- Flexibility to work PRN shifts across different hospital units based on staffing needs.Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments focusing on respiratory function and vital signs.
- Manage and operate a variety of respiratory devices, including ventilators and oxygen therapy equipment.
- Administer respiratory treatments and medications in accordance with physician orders.
- Assist in airway management procedures, including intubation and airway clearance.
- Respond promptly to cardiac arrest emergencies and participate in resuscitation efforts.
- Monitor patients’ responses to therapy, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Document all interventions accurately within electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in acute care settings such as ICU, PICU, NICU, and trauma centers.
- Support ventilator management and troubleshooting for complex cases.
- Maintain proficiency with medical terminology and technical operation of respiratory equipment.
- Participate in ongoing training related to hospital medicine, emergency medicine, and critical care protocols.
Duties
The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for delivering patient-centered respiratory care with precision and professionalism. Specific duties include:
- Conducting thorough patient assessments to determine respiratory status and needs.
- Operating advanced ventilator systems for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
- Administering oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and other respiratory treatments safely.
- Responding swiftly to emergencies such as cardiac arrests or acute respiratory distress situations.
- Monitoring vital signs continuously to evaluate treatment effectiveness.
- Documenting all clinical activities accurately within electronic health records (EHR).
- Assisting with neonatal resuscitation procedures when required.
- Ensuring compliance with hospital policies regarding infection control and safety standards.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives related to respiratory care practices.
