We're looking to hire a dynamic person to support our Senior Lunch Program and Meals on Wheels. This role helps ensure seniors receive nutrition through thoughtfully prepared meals. Often the most important meal of their day!
- Full-time opportunity: 40 hours/week, Monday - Friday, 5:30am - 1:30pm
Job Summary:
The Assistant Cook supports the preparation and service of means for the Senior Lunch Program, Meals on Wheels, and other departmental requests such as meetings, trainings, and special events. This position ensures quality, sanitation, and timely meal production while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily food preparation, cooking, and packaging of meals.
- Support the serving of Meals on Wheels and on-site dining.
- Prepare bulk food for delivery to additional meal sites.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and storage areas including washing dishes, cleaning equipment, and mopping floors.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and ServSafe guidelines, including documenting food temperatures.
- Follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Participate in regular training in cooking and baking tasks.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education):
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Previous work experience in cooking and food preparation preferred
- ServSafe Certification required (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Interest in and desire to work with the elderly and disabled
- Ability to work with coworkers, clients and other contacts in a professional and positive manner
- Must pass a national background check
Working Conditions:
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs
- Regular exposure to hot surfaces, sharp objects, and cleaning chemicals is expected. Adherence to food safety and sanitation standards is required at all times.
- Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate meal preparation schedules and special events.
- Noise level in the work environment can be moderate to high during peak meal service times.
- Involves interaction with staff, volunteers, and program participants and requires the ability to maintain a calm, service-oriented demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
- Occasional travel between sites or to local vendors may be required.
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
