Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and skilled Marine Carpenter / Hull Scraper to assist with wooden and
fiberglass vessel repair, restoration projects, and routine shipyard operations. This role is hands-on and
physically demanding, ideal for someone experienced in boatyards, construction, or marine
environments. The right candidate will take pride in craftsmanship, understand marine materials, and
work safely around vessels on the hard and in dry dock.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hull scraping, sanding, grinding, and surface preparation
- Assist with bottom paint removal and application
- Repair and replace wooden structural components (frames, planking, decking, trim)
- Perform fiberglass repairs and fairing work
- Caulking, sealing, and waterproofing
- Assist with restoration projects on historic and working vessels
- Safely operate hand tools and power tools
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow all shipyard safety procedures
Qualifications
- Experience in marine carpentry, boatbuilding, or general carpentry preferred
- Knowledge of wood species used in marine construction (oak, teak, mahogany preferred)
- Experience using grinders, sanders, scrapers, and marine coatings
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs
- Comfortable working on scaffolding and ladders
- Reliable transportation
- Strong work ethic and punctuality required
Preferred (Not Required)
- Prior shipyard or boatyard experience
- Experience with wooden vessel restoration
- Knowledge of bottom paint systems and marine coating
Compensation
hourly wage (based on experience)
