About the Firm
We are a growing Maryland law firm seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join our team. The majority of your practice will involve family law litigation, including divorce, custody, child support, contempt, modification actions, and protective orders. Additional matters could include consumer protection, small claims, and occasional criminal defense, and we can assist in training there.
You will work with an attorney who has over 15 years of litigation experience while maintaining primary responsibility for your own cases. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for an attorney who is comfortable independently managing contested litigation and trying divorce and custody cases.
Responsibilities
- Independently represent clients in contested hearings and trials, particularly in family law matters.
- Manage cases from intake through resolution, including legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, discovery, settlement negotiations, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy.
- Develop legal strategies tailored to each client's objectives while providing practical, effective counsel.
- Maintain prompt communication with clients, opposing counsel, and firm staff.
- Work collaboratively with attorneys and paralegals to move cases efficiently and provide exceptional client service.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Maryland.
- Minimum of three years of litigation experience.
- Experience independently handling contested hearings and trials.
- Family law litigation experience preferred.
- Excellent legal writing, courtroom advocacy, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage an active caseload with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
What We Offer
- Competitive contractor compensation of $150 per hour.
- Flexible, primarily remote schedule outside of court appearances.
- High level of autonomy with meaningful courtroom experience.
- Collaboration and strategic guidance from an experienced litigator.
- Dedicated administrative and paralegal support.
- Opportunity to build a long-term professional relationship with a growing firm.
When applying, please include your resume and a brief description of your courtroom experience, including the types of contested hearings and trials you have handled as lead counsel.
