Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) to join our team in conducting VA Compensation and Pension (C&P) examinations. This vital role involves performing comprehensive psychiatric assessments, documenting findings accurately, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure veterans receive thorough evaluations. Duties
- Conduct detailed psychiatric evaluations for veterans applying for VA disability benefits, including mental health history and current symptom assessment
- Perform mental status examinations, psychological testing, and diagnostic evaluations utilizing established clinical protocols
- Document findings meticulously within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks, ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and case managers, to coordinate comprehensive patient care plans
- Manage telehealth consultations when applicable, providing remote assessments with the same thoroughness as in-person evaluations
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, including CPT coding for procedures and ICD-10 codes for diagnoses, supporting proper billing and record keeping
- Ensure all assessments adhere to VA guidelines and legal standards related to Workers' Compensation law and veteran rights
Requirements
- Current license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with certification in psychiatric or mental health nursing from an accredited program
- Proven experience working with veterans or within a VA healthcare setting is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of mental health conditions such as depression, PTSD, anxiety disorders, and substance use issues
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for documentation and data management
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including mental status exams and behavioral health evaluations
- Experience with telehealth platforms and remote assessment techniques is advantageous
- Knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-10 coding, and medical documentation standards necessary for accurate billing and reporting
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex information clearly
- Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times
- Prior experience in acute care settings such as hospitals or emergency rooms is beneficial but not required; training will be provided as needed
