South Miami Podiatry is looking for a reliable, detail-oriented, and personable Medical Front Desk Coordinator / Medical Receptionist to join our outpatient podiatry office in Miami, FL.
This position is ideal for someone with prior medical-office experience who is comfortable managing patient scheduling, insurance verification, payments, referrals, medical records, and day-to-day front desk responsibilities in a small specialty practice.
Location: South Miami, Florida
Work Schedule:
Monday-Thursday: 9:00 AM-4:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM-1:30 PM
Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
Primary Duties
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients at the front desk and by phone
- Answer calls in a courteous and professional manner
- Coordinate patient scheduling, including new appointments, follow-ups, rescheduling, confirmations, and cancellations
- Perform patient check-in and check-out
- Confirm and update demographics, contact information, and insurance information
- Check insurance eligibility and benefits before scheduled visits
- Review insurance coverage, including copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and applicable patient responsibility
- Collect and process copays, outstanding balances, deductibles, and self-pay charges
- Accurately document payments and patient account information
- Enter and maintain patient information in the electronic medical record
- Upload and organize insurance cards, identification, referrals, outside records, and other documents in patient charts
- Request, obtain, and follow up on insurance referrals when necessary
- Assist patients with questions regarding scheduled appointments, referrals, records, prescriptions, testing orders, and other information documented in their chart
- Handle incoming and outgoing medical-record requests
- Send records and documents securely by fax or email when appropriate
- Coordinate with referring physicians, primary care offices, insurance carriers, pharmacies, imaging centers, laboratories, and other healthcare facilities
- Keep the reception and front-office areas organized and professional
- Provide general administrative support and assist with office workflow as needed
- Communicate closely with the physician, medical assistant, scribe, and Practice Administrator to support efficient patient care
Qualifications
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish
- Prior experience working in a medical office, physician practice, or healthcare front desk
- Working knowledge of insurance eligibility and benefits verification
- Experience handling referrals, including HMO referral requirements
- Understanding of copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and patient financial responsibility
- Familiarity with insurance websites and eligibility portals, including Availity or similar systems
- Experience using an electronic medical record or practice-management system
- NextGen Office experience is highly preferred
- Previous experience collecting payments and discussing patient balances
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional telephone etiquette and customer-service skills
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable using computers, email, fax systems, scanners, and general office technology
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks throughout the day
- Comfortable explaining amounts due and requesting payment from patients
- Understanding of patient privacy and HIPAA requirements
- Able to work independently while also contributing to a small, collaborative medical-office team
Preferred Experience
Experience in podiatry, orthopedics, or another specialty physician practice is preferred but not required.

Job Type: Part-time, approximately 28-35 scheduled hours per week, before unpaid meal breaks
