Culture House is seeking dependable, professional unarmed security guards for our licensed adult-use cannabis dispensary in Midtown Manhattan.
This is a highly visible, customer-facing position. You will help maintain a safe and welcoming environment while checking identification, addressing potential conflicts, supporting special events, and assisting management during opening and closing.
We are looking for guards who remain alert, communicate clearly, arrive on time, and know how to calm situations without making them worse. This is not a bouncer position. Unnecessary aggression, intimidation, or physical confrontation will not be tolerated.
AVAILABLE SHIFTS
Applicants must be able to consistently work one of the following shifts:
- Opening shift: 7:45 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
- Closing shift: 4:00 p.m.–12:30 a.m.
Full-time schedules may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. Closing-shift applicants must have reliable transportation home after 12:30 a.m.
PAY
- $20 per hour
- Overtime paid when legally applicable
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Check government-issued photo identification before customers enter.
- Follow company procedures for verifying age and identifying expired, altered, invalid, or mismatched identification.
- Politely refuse entry when identification requirements are not met and involve a manager when necessary.
- Maintain a professional, welcoming, and alert presence at the entrance.
- Use calm verbal communication and sound judgment to de-escalate disputes, disruptive behavior, and other conflicts.
- Notify management and contact emergency services when a situation cannot be safely handled.
- Assist with access control, crowd flow, and safety during store events and brand activations.
- Accompany designated employees during opening and closing procedures.
- Watch for suspicious activity and unauthorized access.
- Maintain awareness of the entrance and surrounding area while assigned to post.
- Communicate clearly with managers and other employees throughout the shift.
- Remain at the assigned post until properly relieved.
- Follow all Culture House safety, emergency, confidentiality, and security procedures.
- Perform duties without carrying a firearm or other unauthorized weapon.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Active and valid New York State Security Guard Registration Card for unarmed security work.
- Registration must remain current and in good standing throughout employment.
- Reliable attendance and the ability to arrive on time for every scheduled shift.
- Professional communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during stressful situations.
- Ability to inspect identification carefully and consistently follow entry procedures.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during a shift.
- Ability to work assigned weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Willingness to complete required company and site-specific training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one year of security experience.
- Experience in a high-volume retail, cannabis, hospitality, nightlife, or event environment.
- Previous experience checking identification and controlling customer entry.
- Training or practical experience in conflict de-escalation, emergency response, or crowd management.
