Thank you for considering employment in the Lunenburg Public Schools.There is an open Part Time Athletic Director position at the Lunenburg High School.TITLE: Athletic Director (.5 Position)LOCATON: Lunenburg High School, 1075 Massachusetts Avenue, Lunenburg, MA 01462FUNDING SOURCE: Local funds REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools and, when necessary, the Building PrincipalJOB SUMMARYThe primary function is to provide leadership in the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the athletic programs. The Athletic Director works collaboratively to lead members of the staff and communicate effectively with students, parents, members of the community, and colleagues within the Lunenburg School District as well as other districts. Inherent in the position are responsibilities for planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, and personnel and financial management. The position is also responsible for assisting the Lunenburg Middle-High School administration in conducting student investigations in the areas of behavior, harassment or bullying.
Requires keeping current on relevant policy, procedure, law, and student handbook rules and effective communication with students, parents/guardians.Requirements: Minimum of Masters degree with administrative, teaching and coaching experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Prepare and manage a master budget for all athletic programsSupervise and maintain equipment inventoriesPrepare a master sports calendar that includes conference and non-conference games/eventsCoordinate gyms, building and athletic field use with district/city facilities and maintain the district building use calendar for athletic eventsCoordinate and manage athletic field and facility requests by outside organizations coordinating with the High School Administration and the District Office Coordinate gym and field use for practices and games and give final clearance for use of either the gym or the athletic fieldDemonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, and effective instructional strategiesHire coaching staff, coordinating required payroll work and background checks with District OfficeMonitor and evaluate all head coaches and hold head coaches accountable for evaluating assistant coaches. Evaluations should be shared with High School Administration following each athletic seasonWork with coaching staff and transportation contractor to schedule all athletic departure times and provide bus supervision with appropriate paperworkSeek and recommend suitable competition for all non-conference events/gamesManage officials and all non-conference contest paymentsSecure game workers for athletic contests Coordinate collection of rosters for program information as neededSubmit athletic expense request for payment of coaches, officials, and other workers to payroll with appropriate paperworkAssist in supervision of at home athletic contestsEvaluate all athletic programs on an annual basis, making recommendations for improvement to the Building Principal and Superintendent when necessaryMeet with, orient, and provide in-service training for all coaches within 3 weeks prior to the sports season and hold an evaluation conference with all coaches within 3 weeks after the conclusion of their sport seasonCoordinate review of student athlete grades by using coaches and guidance councilorsManage the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches and athletic programsProvide a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about an athletic program or coachDistribute and Massachusetts High School Activities Association (MIAA) materials and enforce MIAA rules and regulations, including player eligibilityCollect, file, and notify athletes and coaches regarding student eligibility as it pertains to MIAA requirements and athletic codes of conductCollect and maintain on file, properly completed and current physical exam card for every student participating in athleticsDistribute and maintain on file athletic training rules and codes of conduct signed by students participating in athleticsAdminister the school athletic code in a fair and consistent manner within the intent of the code and the missions of the school and the Lunenburg School DistrictEnsure District adherence to all MIAA and district policies, administrative rules, procedures and codes relating to participation in athleticsCoordinate ordering of uniforms, letters, and other awardsCoordinate post season awards ceremoniesAttend athletic conference meetingsPerform other duties which may be assigned to this position by administratorsCoordinate and attend Lunenburg Athletic Advisory Council meetingsAssist the Lunenburg Middle-High School Administration complaint resolution, investigations, student supervision and other duties relative to student athletes as assigned.Coordinate and schedule youth sports and adult wellness/sports activities who utilize school facilities.GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Manage oneself (be organized, prepared, and punctual; manage resources; meet deadlines; follow through on commitments; demonstrate appropriate physical appearance relative to job and environmental expectations) in a manner that enhances the school community;Act in ways that directly support the missions of Lunenburg Public Schools on a consistent basis;Learn and grow as a professional; including attending state conferences/meetingsBecause of the safety requirements within this position, the athletic director must speak and write clearly in English;Demonstrate clear verbal and written communication and active listening skills;Develop and maintain rapport and effective relationships with adolescents and adults contacted in carrying out duties and responsibilities by using courtesy, diplomacy, collaboration, cooperation and professional conduct;Demonstrate the ability to use computers for word processing, data management, information retrieval, video and audio presentations, and communicationsContribute to the goals and success of all teams and team members through collaboration, cooperation, and flexibility in team discussions, activities, and decision-making;Maintain high ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality.SUPERVISIONAll Coaching Staff and Athletic TrainerWORKING ENVIRONMENTThe usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, and running.
