Position Summary
Works under general supervision to coordinate all laundry operational activities within the Division of Corrections.
Pay Grade: 44
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
- Four (4) years of experience in receiving; stocking supplies; inventory control and working in a laundry operations environment; of which three (2) years are in a supervisory capacity; AND
- High school diploma or possess a GED.
PROOF OF EDUCATION; TRAINING; AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops laundry schedule for daily operations from different housing units on the Correctional compound and ensures adherence to the laundry schedule.
- Responds with written and oral communications to ranking officers and counselors regarding laundry schedule and inventory inquiries.
- Ensures proper receipt; sort and laundry of items from housing units.
- Oversees regular laundry schedule and conducts follow-up on special order requests for timely submission and pick-up.
- Trains and supervises inmate work-lines for laundry operations; escorts inmate work-lines to and from for morning and evening shifts to the work site.
- Prioritizes services when needed because of equipment failure and/or unusual events.
- Maintains inventory of chemicals necessary to operate laundry equipment for proper operations.
- Orders supplies such as janitorial and replacement inmate bedding to ensure continued laundry operations.
- Monitors laundry chemical dispensing unit and other equipment to ensure proper laundry operations.
- Notifies Shelby County Division of Corrections Maintenance or contract vendors per supervisor for maintenance and repairs when needed.
- Maintains a daily log of events; prepares reports such as incidents and disciplinary as needed.
Performs other related duties as required or directed.

- Knowledge of inventory control.
- Must be able to lead and direct inmate work-lines.
- Must be able to demonstrate good judgment and make responsible decisions.
- Knowledge of departmental operation and County procedures.
Must be able to compile and maintain accurate records in a timely manner.

- Must be able to work in a prison environment.
Must pass a physical examination.
