Essential Job Functions
Provide services in assigned LDCHD clinics to include:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care, including social determinants of health, vital signs, health assessments
- Provide state mandated surveillance, investigation, reporting, and treatment of Communicable Diseases (CD) such as active and latent Tuberculosis (TB) infections etc.
- Visit types may include but not limited to family planning, STI testing and treatment, immunizations, Communicable Diseases (CD), sick visits
- Perform STI exams and treat clients for STI’s per protocol
- Performs minor procedures and treatments within the scope of a registered nurse and written protocol
- Administer and distribute medications/immunizations per protocol or as ordered by physician or APRN
- Assist clinicians with examinations, results, and phone calls.
- Perform, obtain, and handle laboratory tests, venipuncture, and measurements
- Provide laboratory results, phone calls, education, and record requests to clients as appropriate or requested
- Complete documentation of patient encounters regarding patient care, condition, treatment, or recommendations
- Prepare, label and package medications
- Provide on-site nursing and physical health services within the juvenile correctional facility, including intake health history reviews, required screenings, medication coordination, and ongoing health monitoring in accordance with applicable regulations and contractual requirements
- Collaborate with detention staff, LDCPH leadership, and external healthcare providers to support continuity of care for justice-involved youth using trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate practices
- Respond to phone calls from the public with accurate information
- Assume responsibility for client follow-up as indicated and necessary
- Assist with community outreach events
- Work among vulnerable populations (e.g. unhoused, LGBTQ, HIV)
- Cleaning and restocking clinic spaces
- Cross-train into other clinic programs and maintain flexibility to support a range of administrative, clinical, and outreach functions as LDCPH priorities evolve
Assure smooth operations of clinic as directed by Supervisor to include:
- Participate in stocking, inventory and ordering of supplies and cleaning clinic spaces
- Assist with clinic orientation and development of materials as assigned
- Maintain records and statistics and prepare reports as assigned
- Review and update program procedures and policies assigned
Represent LDCHD to the community and other key stakeholders to include:
- Work with students during clinical rotation to ensure understanding of the public health’s essential function in the community
- Provide and participate in health education presentations and activities
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
Perform general responsibilities as part of the job requirements listed above, including, but not limited to:
- Maintain an understanding of the various processes and procedures of the position
- Work collaboratively with LDCPH staff to maintain a team environment and accomplish the tasks necessary to serve and support the mission
- Uphold and support LDCPH policies and values ensuring solid ethical standards are practiced
- Maintain professional relationships and cordial interactions with LDCPH clients, community partners, staff and others
- Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts
- Comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations
- Ensure full confidentiality of protected health information
- Identify and implement solutions to problems in general seeking counsel as appropriate
- Cross train for other positions to cover when necessary
- Assume public health emergency role as necessary
- Attend meetings as required or requested
- Create, prepare and deliver documents and reports as needed
Graduation from an accredited nursing program
Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Kansas and maintains credential, required
