Job Summary
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists supports the continued development and
study of the obstetric and gynecologic hospitalist model as one potential approach to improve quality
and patient safety, and to reduce the incidence of adverse events across delivery settings. The primary
goal of the OBGYN Hospitalist (OBH) is to care for the hospitalized obstetric patient, and to assist in
the management of obstetric events and emergencies.
During the days and times that the OBH is scheduled to provide services, the OBH will be physically
available, with no assigned tasks or responsibilities elsewhere, to assist in the management of any
patient on Labor and Delivery (L&D), postpartum or in the Emergency Department (ED), depending
on the acuity of L&D.
Essential Functions
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Provide situational awareness of L&D activity, including the management plan for all patients, allowing for cross monitoring of activities as well as serving as a safety net.
- Promote enhanced collaboration, teamwork, and communication to improve safety and outcomes.
- Provide care for any unassigned patients who present to L&D, or, if requested, in consultation with the ED
- Provide triage for patients presenting to OB ED services.
- Perform vaginal deliveries, Cesarean sections, and other services for patients of the attending Obstetrical providers in coordination with the patient's Obstetrical Providers, or in an emergency situation.
- Serve as a surgical assistant for the attending Obstetrical providers.
- Be available to support the Certified Nurse Midwives and Advanced Practice Providers.
- Enforce quality metrics and evidence-based medicine.
- Provide support, education, and mentorship to L&D nurses.
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine Required or
- DO
- 4-6 years 3-5 years of post residency clinical experience or specialized OB/GYN fellowship training Preferred
- Proven ability to manage high-risk pregnancies, labor progress, and complex obstetric emergencies (High proficiency)
- Proficiency in operative vaginal deliveries, complex Cesarean sections, and gynecologic surgical emergencies (High proficiency)
- High-level interpretation of fetal heart rate tracings (High proficiency)
- Physician - New York State Board of Medicine Upon Hire Required or
- ABOG_American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Certification - AMERICAN BOARD OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY (ABOG) Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible
- Compliance with CME Requirements (Hospital, Regional, State, and Federal)
