We are seeking a part -time self-motivated Lab Technician to join our Laboratory Operations team. In this role you will be preparing batches of samples by receiving and sorting the urine and oral fluid specimens at your assigned work station. The Lab Technician is responsible for reading and scanning Chain of Custody (CoC) forms, ordering applicable tests in the system, and applying barcoded labels to ensure samples are properly prepared for the testing process.
Shift: Saturdays 8am-445pm (We are hiring for various shifts and will be discussed during the interview process.)
Salary: 18.50
Shift Differential: Additional $2.00/hr for time worked between 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform routine operations including opening sample bags, creating accessions and batches, ordering proper test(s), and applying barcode labels
- Scan Chain of Custody (CoC) forms, ensuring proper orientation and clear, reproducible documents
- Verify proper aliquot volume; may be required to hand-pour aliquots using bulb pipettes
- Identify and separate samples requiring additional attention
- Enter client and donor information, noting any deficiencies after Team Lead sign-off
- Assist with transporting batches to other departments and placing or retrieving samples from freezer storage while maintaining proper chain of custody
- Follow all laboratory policies and procedures and adhere to health and safety standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- Experience working in a lab or high-volume production environment, preferred.
- Ability to interpret and follow complex, written instructions, required.
- Strong attention to detail, required
- Ability to work independently as well as the ability to communicate effectively in a team environment, required.
- Data entry skills via a keyboard (alpha and numeric), required
- Strong hand-eye coordination, required.
- Physical demands required to perform critical tasks in this role include standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 25lbs, bending and carrying.
