Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) - Critical Care (ICU) for a 13-week contract opportunity in Chicago, Illinois. Join a 30-bed Medical, Neuro, and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Comprehensive Stroke Center, where you'll provide exceptional care to critically ill patients in a high-acuity environment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill ICU patients.
- Perform detailed patient assessments and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and multiple vasoactive infusions.
- Monitor and manage patients requiring ventilators, BiPAP/AVAPS, CRRT, and advanced oxygen therapies.
- Assist physicians with bedside procedures, including intubation/extubation, central line placement, arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), and cardioversions.
- Interpret invasive hemodynamic monitoring, including CO/CI, SVV, CVP, and SvO₂.
- Care for patients with stroke, sepsis, GI bleed, COPD, CHF, DKA, trauma, and complex post-surgical conditions.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation using Epic EMR.
- Collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure outstanding patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU/Critical Care experience.
- Experience with:
- Ventilator management
- CRRT (Prisma)
- Multiple vasoactive medications
- Neuro and Surgical ICU patients
- Invasive hemodynamic monitoring
- Experience assisting with bedside procedures is required.
- Open heart (CABG/Valve), IABP, Impella, thrombectomy, prone positioning, paralytic management, and comprehensive stroke experience are highly preferred.
- Must be willing to float based on unit census.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and every other holiday.
