Ennis Steel Industries is seeking a hands-on Safety Lead to support a safe and compliant workplace at our Ennis manufacturing facility. This position serves as the primary on-site safety resource, working closely with plant leadership and our Corporate EHS Manager to implement company safety initiatives, oversee workers' compensation administration, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a strong culture of safety.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the production floor, building relationships with employees, coaching safe work practices, and driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
As the Safety Lead, you will:
- Serve as the primary safety contact for the Ennis facility.
- Partner with the Corporate EHS Manager to implement company safety programs, policies, and initiatives.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and workplace assessments.
- Identify workplace hazards and coordinate corrective actions.
- Investigate workplace incidents and near misses and assist with root cause analysis.
- Deliver new hire safety orientation and ongoing employee safety training.
- Reinforce safe work practices through daily interaction with employees and supervisors.
- Partner with supervisors and department leaders to proactively identify risks, reinforce safe work practices, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety.
- Manage all workers' compensation cases from initial injury through return to work, including claim reporting, documentation, coordination with the company's workers' compensation carrier, and collaboration with HR, supervisors, and medical providers.
- Maintain OSHA compliance, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), GHS documentation, and required safety records.
- Manage safety software, inspections, incident documentation, and corrective action tracking.
- Assist with emergency action plans, evacuation procedures, and safety drills.
- Ensure fire protection equipment, first aid supplies, and other safety resources are properly maintained.
- Support environmental compliance activities as needed.
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
- Three to five years of safety experience in manufacturing, steel fabrication, construction, or another industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general safety practices.
- Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence safe behaviors.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with operations leadership and the Corporate EHS Manager.
Preferred
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent.
- Additional EHS certifications are a plus.
- Experience conducting safety training, incident investigations, workplace audits, and workers' compensation case management.
Work Environment
This position is split between an office setting and a manufacturing facility. The Safety Lead will spend significant time on the production floor and must be comfortable working around heavy equipment, moving machinery, airborne particles, and varying environmental conditions.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
