Savannah Logistics Services is committed to keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and road ready. We are seeking a dependable Diesel/Chassis Mechanic to join our maintenance team and help service our tractors, trailers, and chassis equipment.
Position Summary
The Chassis Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of company chassis and related equipment. This role requires a hands-on individual who can perform pre-trip inspections, tire service, general chassis repair, and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Welding ability is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pre-trip inspections on chassis prior to units going on the road
- Change and service tires on tractor trailers and chassis
- Perform general chassis repair and maintenance, including structural, suspension, and running gear components
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues to ensure equipment is safe and roadworthy
- Perform welding repairs on chassis and related equipment as needed
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions as part of daily duties
- Support overall fleet maintenance operations and assist with additional shop tasks as assigned
- Follow all safety procedures and DOT compliance standards
Qualifications
- Mechanic’s certification required
- Proven experience in fleet maintenance, preferably with tractor-trailers and chassis
- Proficient in general chassis repair and diagnostics
- Ability to change tires on tractor trailers and chassis equipment
- Welding experience preferred (MIG/stick)
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Own basic hand tools; company provides specialty/heavy equipment tools
- Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus but not required
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability and willingness to communicate effectively with team members and drivers
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
- Ability to work in outdoor/shop environments in varying temperatures
Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
