We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Peer Support Specialist to join our behavioral health team. Responsibilities
- Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health challenges or substance use issues, sharing personal recovery experiences to inspire hope.
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies, harm reduction techniques, and relapse prevention plans through motivational interviewing and behavioral health coaching.
- Conduct crisis management and intervention when clients are in distress, ensuring safety while maintaining a calm and supportive presence.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans that respect client preferences and cultural backgrounds.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions using electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
- Advocate for clients’ needs within the community by connecting them to resources such as housing, employment, social services, and addiction counseling programs.
- Promote recovery peer support principles by fostering a respectful environment where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to pursue their goals.
Experience
- Lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use disorders is essential; previous peer support or behavioral health work is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of crisis management, crisis intervention techniques, and harm reduction strategies.
- Experience working with culturally diverse communities and understanding the importance of cultural competence in behavioral health services.
- Familiarity with addiction counseling, social work practices, motivational interviewing, and client communication skills.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality while effectively sharing information within legal and ethical boundaries.
- Prior experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders or complex behavioral health needs is advantageous.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems to document client interactions accurately.
