Summary:This position will assist in the maintenance and operation of the Waste Water Treatment Plant. This will include the maintenance and repair of necessary equipment and facilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
· Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
· Ability to read and interpret gauges and keep accurate records.
· Inspect pumps, chlorine tanks, equipment, and other machinery to assure the Wastewater Plant is functioning properly at all times; operate pumps and regulate the flow of chemicals used in sewage treatment; take and record readings from gauges, meters, and/or other instruments, at specified intervals
· Maintain and clean buildings, other facilities and grounds at the Wastewater Plant, as assigned by the Superintendent or Chief Operator; clean clarifiers and remove sludge.
· Monitors and adds chemicals to post treatment water as required.
· Follows safety requirements for handling chemicals; reports sewer spills or overflows within proper time fame.
· Participate in removal and repair/replacement of sewer lift stations and other pumps and motors involved in water & wastewater operations.
· Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
· Normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired results.
· Yard maintenance and facility repairs within the WWTP and well sites.
· Performs valve exercising, dead-end main flushing and fire hydrant maintenance.
· Safely operate hand tools, power tools, small to heavy equipment, and plant vehicles.
· Prepares for severe weather and responds to after hour emergencies.
· Will work in inclement conditions and sometimes harsh environments.
Job Requirements:
· High school or equivalent (Required)
· “On-call”, evening and weekend work will be required
· Capable of independent decision making.
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
· Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, and work independently in the absence of supervision.
· Ability to establish work priorities and complete job tasks within specified time frame with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
· Basic skills to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using proper business English.
· Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions.
· Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
· Proficient understanding of City safety rules and operating procedures.
· Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance
