Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated DC PKEEP Lead Teacher to join our early childhood education team. This involves leading classroom activities, developing engaging curricula and assessment, and fostering a nurturing environment for young learners. The Lead Teacher will inspire children to explore, learn, and grow while ensuring compliance with all safety and educational standards. Duties
- Design and implement innovative, developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with DC Early Learning standards and The Creative Curriculum guidelines.
- Lead daily classroom activities that promote literacy, math, physical education, and social-emotional skills among preschool-aged children.
- Manage classroom behavior through positive reinforcement techniques and effective behavior management strategies.
- Collaborate closely with parents and guardians to communicate children's progress, address concerns, and foster strong home-school connections.
- Ensure adherence to mandated reporting laws and maintain accurate documentation of child welfare incidents and developmental milestones.
- Supervise and mentor assistant teachers and classroom aides, providing guidance on classroom management, lesson planning, and child development best practices.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom environment that supports early intervention strategies and inclusive education for children with diverse needs.
- Conduct regular assessments using standardized testing tools to monitor developmental progress and tailor instruction accordingly.
- Stay current with certifications such as First Aid and CPR, ensuring the safety of all children in care, and other courses required by OSSE and the PKEEP grant.
Skills
- Experience in curriculum development tailored for preschool-aged children across various developmental domains.
- Proven ability to work effectively with children, demonstrating a deep understanding of childhood development principles.
- Knowledge of special education techniques and early intervention strategies to support children with diverse learning needs.
- Expertise in classroom management, behavior management, and implementing positive discipline methods.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with parents, colleagues, and community partners effectively.
- Experience teaching activities that promote gross motor skills among young children.
- Familiarity with CLASS and the ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE used in early childhood settings to assess developmental progress.
- Ability to plan engaging lessons that incorporate literacy education, math concepts, and social-emotional learning components.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
