Overview
Bayside Veterinary Services is a mobile large animal vet clinic that provides veterinary care to horses and other species of livestock (sheep, goats, pigs, alpacas, etc) in Volusia County. Whether assisting with medical procedures, maintaining a clean and safe environment, or communicating with pet owners, you will be at the heart of our compassionate veterinary practice. This position requires strong equine handling skills. This position is ideal for motivated individuals eager to grow their veterinary experience/skills and make a positive impact on animal lives.
Duties
- Assist veterinarian during examinations, surgeries, and treatments by preparing equipment, restraining animals, and monitoring patient status.
- Handle animal restraint safely and effectively using proper techniques to ensure animal welfare and staff safety.
- Perform laboratory tasks including sample collection, processing tests, and maintaining accurate record keeping of patient data.
- Manage front desk responsibilities such as client communication, appointment scheduling, and updating medical records with precision.
- Maintain a clean and sterile environment by disinfecting treatment areas, surgical areas, truck and equipment.
- Assist with specialized procedures like IV insertion, catheterization, and administering medications while adhering to veterinary terminology and safety protocols.
Skills
- Strong/extensive experience in handling horses and comfortable with restraint techniques (ie. twitches, shoulder restraint, lip chain, etc).
- Excellent client communication skills to provide pet owners with clear instructions on pet care and treatment plans.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, anatomy, and veterinary terminology to support effective communication within the team.
- Skilled in using personal protective equipment (PPE) properly to ensure safety for both animals and staff during procedures.
- Ability to have attention to detail in regard to record keeping, ordering diagnostic tests and billing.
- Requires valid drivers license and ability to drive practice vehicle.
- Capable of performing laboratory tasks such as sample processing or diagnostic testing with attention to detail.
- Ability to follow aseptic techniques during surgical procedures.
- Maintain high standards of animal welfare throughout all activities.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
