Job Description
The primary function of this position is to drive a refrigerated tractor trailer (48’ and 53’) or straight truck (26’), as well as unload and deliver meat products to our valued customers.
Job Responsibilities
- Willingness to take both local and OTR routes each week. OTR routes are regional and run either same-day or with 1-2 nights away. We are unable to guaranty only local or only OTR routes; all drivers must be willing to drive both every week.
- Safely drive and deliver customer orders to meet scheduled customer delivery times.
- Unload products from the trailer with a hand truck or by hand and place items in designated customer storage areas.
- Count and verify delivery of correct items with customer and obtain proper signatures.
- Collect money (cash or checks) where required.
- Return any rejected or unsold merchandise along with the completed and signed credit memo form.
- Communicate with company’s dispatchers, and other team members to make deliveries or pickups.
- Deliver high customer service during customer interactions.
- Willing and able to perform repeated, manual heavy lifting of items 50 pounds or more.
- Make frequent stops during a work shift.
- Utilize Samsara ELD to document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving.
- Follow all FMCSA/DOT regulations for CDL drivers.
Job Requirements
- Class A CDL issued by the state of legal residence with necessary endorsements and DOT qualified, including valid medical card
- 2+ years of driving experience
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Willingness to drive both local and to be away up to 1-2 nights at a time.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of Chicagoland (both city and suburbs), including surrounding areas (Indianapolis, IN, Louisville and Kentucky) is preferred
- Ability to operate manual transmission preferred
- Clean motor vehicle record (MVR) and accident history
- Ability to use ELD efficiently
- Ability to lift 75-85 pounds as needed
- Great attendance record
Compensation
- Hourly wage for local routes
- $0.55 - $0.60/mile, depending on experience
- Stop pay and layover pay included
- Drivers can make $1,200 - $2,300 per week (average ~$1,550/week)
