Duties
- Perform garment alterations including hemming, taking in or letting out seams, resizing, and repairing with precision and attention to detail
- Use sewing machines, hand sewing techniques, and pressing equipment to achieve professional-quality results
- Operate pressing machines safely to press garments for a polished appearance after alterations
- Consult with customers to understand their needs, provide expert advice on garment fit, and ensure satisfaction
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace with proper handling of fabrics and tools to ensure efficiency and safety
- Assist in custom apparel production by constructing or modifying garments according to specifications
- Follow garment construction standards and sewing techniques to deliver consistent quality across all projects
Skills
- Proven experience in garment sewing, tailoring, or alterations within a fashion retail environment
- Proficiency with sewing machines, hand sewing tools, and pressing equipment including pressing machines
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, stitching techniques, and fabric handling
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients
- Basic math skills for measuring fabrics, taking accurate measurements, and calculating adjustments
- Ability to operate pressing machines safely and efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
- Familiarity with custom apparel production processes and alterations procedures
