Job Overview
Awen Solutions Group is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support development and construction projects for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Grand Junction Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. This position is based on-site and will work alongside engineers, construction managers, real property specialists, and program managers to support projects that enhance clinical operations and services for Veterans.
This role is ideal for a Project Engineer or Construction Manager with experience in construction oversight, engineering coordination, project management, federal projects, and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering, planning, design, project management, and construction management support to VA staff
- Oversee contractors, vendors, field activities, change orders, schedules, payment applications, equipment installations, utility outages, and project documentation
- Lead constructability reviews and provide timely reports to project stakeholders
- Conduct on-site inspections, surveys, and field observations of active construction projects
- Monitor compliance with applicable codes, safety requirements, regulations, and VA standards
- Prepare and maintain accurate, auditable project records and recurring project reports
- Review construction documents, as-builts, development plans, O&M plans, design criteria, and developer submissions
- Ensure contractor compliance with Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSMs), Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRAs), and contract requirements
- Develop procurement packages, Statements of Work (SOWs), cost estimates, specifications, and concept sketches
- Support adherence to VA policies, procedures, and Technical Information Library requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- 5+ years of engineering or construction management experience
- Strong understanding of construction methods, codes, safety requirements, and QA/QC practices
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, engineering, and construction documents
- Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder coordination skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree or professional certifications such as PE, PMP, CCM, LEED, or CHC
- Experience supporting federal projects, particularly with the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Background in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management
- Ability to identify construction materials, equipment, and field conditions accurately
Compensation & Benefit
- Salary: $100,000–$130,000, based on experience
