We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Equipment/Fleet Maintenance to oversee the performance, maintenance, compliance, and operational readiness of a large fleet of geothermal drilling equipment, heavy trucks, support vehicles, and field assets.
Position Summary
The Director of Equipment/Fleet Maintenance will lead all aspects of fleet operations, heavy equipment maintenance, shop management, preventative maintenance strategy, vendor relationships, and regulatory compliance across the organization. This role requires a hands on leader with extensive experience managing heavy equipment, hydraulics, diesel systems, fleet operations, and field service teams within demanding construction or drilling environments.
The ideal candidate will possess strong operational leadership skills, a proactive maintenance mindset, and the ability to build scalable maintenance programs that reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Essential Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend geothermal drilling equipment life
- Ensure proper GPS tracking systems for fleet operations are maintained and functioning properly
- Ensure fleet and equipment are prepared for high stress, daily use environments
- Ensure fleet technicians regularly complete all required repairs and maintenance to minimize operational disruption onsite
- Oversee and manage technicians, mechanics, and shop personnel to ensure efficient workflows and accountability
- Implement and manage a Fleet Asset Management program to track:
- Parts inventory
- Equipment maintenance history
- Fleet costs
- Asset utilization
- Predictive maintenance planning
- Work closely with vendors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing on parts, equipment, and services
- Maintain strong vendor and supplier relationships
- Ensure all documentation including:
- Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)
- Timesheets
- Rig evaluations
- Annual inspections
- Maintenance records
- Compliance documentation are accurately completed and maintained in accordance with company and regulatory standards
- Enforce company safety standards across all fleet and maintenance operations
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, state, federal, and company fleet regulations
- Lead, mentor, and develop technicians and shop staff to improve performance and technical expertise
- Promote a high performance culture centered around safety, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
- Prepare data driven recommendations regarding:
- Fleet expansion
- Equipment replacement
- Maintenance improvements
- Cost reduction initiatives
- Collaborate with executive leadership and operations teams to align fleet strategy with company growth objectives
- Regularly report fleet performance metrics, maintenance KPIs, and operational cost analysis to executive leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but equivalent industry experience will be strongly considered
- Minimum 7+ years of leadership experience within fleet management, heavy equipment maintenance, drilling operations, construction, or related industries
- REQUIRED: Strong heavy equipment maintenance experience
- REQUIRED: Extensive hydraulics experience
- REQUIRED: Extensive diesel equipment and diesel engine experience
- Experience managing:
- Heavy equipment fleets
- Construction or drilling equipment
- Fleet maintenance teams
- Shop operations
- Strong understanding of:
- Preventative maintenance programs
