The Allergy Injection Nurse is responsible for providing safe, accurate, and compassionate allergy immunology injection services within a busy outpatient allergy and immunology practice. We are seeking a dedicated healthcare member to join our team. The position requires efficiency, precision, and strong clinical judgment in a high-volume environment where the nurse will see 45-55 patients daily and administer up to 120 injections per day. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping patients manage their allergies and improve their quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
Administer subcutaneous allergy injections in accordance with provider orders in clinic protocols.
Conduct thorough patient assessments to identify allergy symptoms and triggers.
Administer allergy injections according to provider orders and established protocols.
Assess patients before injections (review symptoms, vitals, reactions history).
Monitor patients during and after injection to identify and respond to adverse reactions.
Educate patients on immunotherapy schedules, possible side effects, and emergency procedures.
Develop personalized treatment plans based on individual patient needs and medical history.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Provide support and guidance to patients during follow-up appointments to monitor progress.
Maintain a smooth injection workflow in a high-volume setting (up to 120 injections daily).
Clinical Documentation & Compliance
Record injections, patient observations, and reactions in the electronic health record (EHR).
Ensure compliance with HIPPAA, OSHA, and clinical safety guidelines.
Support serum mixing and inventory management when needed.
Safety & Emergency Preparedness
Remain prepared to manage anaphylaxis and allergic emergencies, including use of epinephrine and oxygen.
Uphold infection control, patient safety and emergency readiness protocols.
Maintain a safe environment in injection rooms at all times.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitoners, and medical assistants to support patient care.
Report adverse reactions promptly to supervising providers.
Collaborate with fellow nursing staff to maintain clinic flow and ensure timely patient care.
Requirements:
- Active MA nursing licensed required. (RN or LPN)
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Strong injection administration and clinical assessment skill.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Empathetic approach to patient care with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to travel to multiple locations
- Commute to Northampton, MA
Preferred:
- Experience in allergy and immunology or outpatient specialty clinics.
- Familiarity with allergy immunotherapy schedules, mixing, and emergency protocols.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm, efficient, and accurate in a fast-paced, high volume environment.
Work Environment:
- Outpatient allergy and immunology setting.
- Daily volume: approx. 40 patients and 120 injections.
- Primarily a seated position while administering injections, performing documentation, and observing patients.
- Requires strong multitasking attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
- Must remain prepared to respond quickly in case of allergic reaction or medical emergency.
