Patient Service Representative
Compensation: Minimum $40.30 / hour
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5x8-Hour Shift)
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Patient Access / Admitting Specialist to join our medical team. In this role, you will manage patient registration, navigate complex insurance coverage, and oversee referral authorizations. You will serve as a crucial liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and third-party payers to ensure smooth administrative operations and compliance with hospital regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient registration, ensuring accurate collection of demographic, clinical, and insurance information.
- Navigate and verify third-party payer coverage, including government-funded programs and managed care plans.
- Facilitate the end-to-end referral and authorization process with insurance providers.
- Utilize ICD-9 and CPT coding knowledge to support accurate billing and administrative processing.
- Maintain compliance with institutional policies, confidentiality guidelines, and healthcare regulatory standards.
- Utilize software systems (including MS Office and Signature TDS) to schedule appointments and process patient records efficiently.
QualificationsRequired
- Experience: Previous administrative or registration experience within a hospital or outpatient medical office setting.
- Medical Knowledge: General understanding of medical terminology, as well as working knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes.
- Insurance & Authorization: Demonstrated expertise in patient registration, third-party payers, government-funded programs, managed care, and referral/authorization workflows.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer software programs, including Microsoft Office suite and medical system software (e.g., Signature TDS).
Preferred
- Prior experience as an admitting worker or surgery scheduler.
- Familiarity with UC policies, procedures, and institutional standards.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission (JCAHO) requirements and compliance standards.
