We are seeking an experienced Fiber-Engineering Technician with a strong background in commercial fiber laser or telecommunication product manufacturing. The successful candidate will manufacture advanced fiber-laser products for quantum applications. This role requires hands-on expertise in fiber-laser architecture, strong problem-solving skills, and experience working closely with a dynamic team to ensure high performance, repeatability, and scalability in manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate and assemble fiber-laser and fiber-optic subassemblies, including precision fiber splicing, routing, and packaging.
- Perform fiber handling and component integration, including gain fibers, pump combiners, isolators, couplers, and WDM components.
- Conduct optical and electrical testing of fiber laser modules using instruments such as optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, and beam profilers.
- Follow and help refine manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and test protocols.
- Maintain accurate build records and test documentation.
- Ensure safe handling of lasers and optical fibers, including adherence to laboratory and manufacturing safety procedures.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Photonics, Laser Technology, Electronics, Optical Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in fiber-optic or laser system assembly within a manufacturing or R&D environment.
- Strong practical experience with fiber handling and fusion splicing, including use of fusion splicers, fiber cleavers, and fiber preparation tools.
- Experience working with fiber-optic components such as pump combiners, WDMs, isolators, couplers, and gain fibers.
- Proficiency using optical test and diagnostic equipment including optical power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and beam profilers.
- Ability to follow and execute detailed assembly procedures, work instructions, and test protocols with high precision and repeatability.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in optical and fiber-based systems.
- Good documentation and record-keeping skills for manufacturing builds and test results.
- Due to the nature of work performed at this facility, US Person status may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in fiber-laser or photonics manufacturing.
- Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) or prototype builds in a photonics or laser manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with free-space optical alignment, including mirrors, lenses, PBS cubes, and waveplates.
- Experience with high-power fiber laser systems (Yb-, Er-, or Tm-doped architectures).
- Experience working within quality-controlled manufacturing environments (ISO 9001 or similar).
