We are currently hiring for the position of TRUCK MECHANIC at our Los Angeles, CA location.
Pay Range: $23.29 to $35.00 (Depending on experience and skills)
Schedule: 3:00p – 11:30pm and 11:00p – 7:30am, subject to change at 6 month bid.
The Intermodal terminal operates 24 hours per day 365 days of the year.
- Must be able to work any needed shift (day, swing, night) and weekends.
- Company will train.
This Truck Mechanic role is essential to the daily operations of our terminal and is responsible for performing preventative and emergency maintenance on hostler trucks, vans and pick-up trucks owned by Universal and will perform emergency maintenance on equipment owned by other contractors working at the Terminal.
Mechanics also inspect equipment for damage or failures, perform diagnostic and repair services, fuel equipment, break down and reassemble tires, and remove and replace damaged or defective components, including fabricating parts as needed. Mechanics may also be required to clean the shop area and perform stocking functions. All work performed must be done in a safe and efficient manner.

This position is unionized and after a 120-day probation period, you will become a union member. Employees are subject to a shift change every six months.
Diesel Mechanic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspects equipment for damage or failures, performs diagnostic and repair services, fuels equipment, breaks down and reassembles tires, and removes and replaces damaged or defective components, including fabricating parts as needed.
- Follows checklist of inspection procedures.
- Test drives vehicles to diagnose malfunctions.
- Performs routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of hostlers, diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment, in compliance with the manufacturers and company schedules.
- All work performed must be done in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license
- Previous auto and truck mechanical experience required
- Good understanding of established safety rules, policies, and procedures, including wearing required safety equipment
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Commitment to excellence and high standards
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow
- Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions.
